This 6-hour session introduces participants to the use of Digital Storytelling in many ways, from introducing new material to helping students learn to conduct research, synthesize large amounts of content and gain expertise in the use of digital communication and authoring tools. It also can help students organize these ideas as they learn to create stories for an audience, and present their ideas and knowledge in an individual and meaningful way. Participants will develop a digital story they can use with their students, lesson integration plans, and ways for students to use digital stories.
Objectives/Goals
1. Name the purpose and components of a digital story
2. View examples of digital stories
3. Use Photo Story 3 software to create a digital story
4. Plan and share a lesson, incorporating Photo Story 3 and digital storytelling, that can be used in the classroom
5. Identify the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for Students and Teachers (NETS WikiThey have a wiki to collaborate on how to incorporate the standards into your teaching)

8:30- 3:30 - Lunch 11:30-12:30
1. Welcome and Introductions
2. Locate our workshop wiki: dscdigitalstorytelling.wikispaces.com. Bookmark it on YOUR computer (for convenience)!
3. Review opening Internet Explorer tabs and clicking on links.
4. Navigating and editing the wiki.
5. What, Why and How of Digital Storytelling.
6. Examples of Digital Stories.
7. Using the Dawson "H" Drive
a. Open H drive
b. Locate the "Shortcut to Photo Story Photos" folder and drag it to your desktop, this is where you can locate photos to use in your story
c. Locate the "Shortcut to Digital Storytelling Workshop" folder and drag it to your desktop, this is where you will save your final product!
8. First Assignment:
Let's work together. Create a short Photo Story, using 4 or 5 images, either ones you find or ones provided on the "H" drive, to practice and to learn the software.
9. Explore Photo Story resources to get ideas, images, audio, etc.
10. Second Assignment:
11. Plan and develop a lesson, using Photo Story 3, that you can use with your students. Create a more extensive Photo Story, incorporating images, audio, effects and music. Be sure to have a title and ending slide. Save your project often! Convert your project as a wmv. so that it can be played on a computer in Windows Media Player. Name it with your name and copy it to the "H" drive for show and tell. Please include some objectives, frameworks, images and audio, etc.
